I am currently a postdoctoral researcher in the HeartBD2K group (Dr. Peipei Ping’s lab) at UCLA.

My PhD is in Integrative Life Sciences  (from Virginia Commonwealth University).

The integrative part means I focus on how to bring different kinds of biological data together.

I work and have worked with bioinformatics, computational biology, text mining, microbiology, virology, and molecular genetics.

My mission in life is to embrace nonsense and to amplify the signal in the noise.

What do you do when you're not doing research?

I'm an amateur voice actor, often as part of live radio shows, previously with OTARP and and the Firehouse Radio Players.

I build software gizmos like Twitter bots: see MusicSuggestron and Talk About Science for examples.

I like photography but I'm not sure what that means in the modern world.

How can I contact you?

Email works best.

Where else are you?

Github

Stackoverflow

Twitter

I help with Wikipedia as JHCaufield.

Researchgate (though I don't use it much)

LinkedIn (same here)

Why are so many of your blog posts laden with asterisks?

Asterisks indicate that there's something else to consider, which is always true. Sometimes these considerations must be postponed to maintain focus.

I must be kind.
